In most states to get a contractor's license you will need a license bond. The amount of these bonds vary according to the trade and the type of work being performed. Most license bonds are classified one of two ways or a combination of both. They are classified as commercial or residential or based on the contract amount. Further, even if you have a license bond or your State does not require a bond you may be required to obtain a permit bond.
